6 Mini Projectors Worth the Money

Mini projectors have gone from niche gadget to living room staple. Between TikTok movie night setups and backyard cinema trends, it’s no surprise that portable projectors are outselling traditional models in a lot of price brackets. But not every mini projector is actually worth buying, so here are six that hold up across different budgets.

1. Magcubic HY320

The Magcubic HY320 is the cheapest projector on this list, and it’s surprisingly capable for the price. For around $40 to $75 depending on the seller, you get native 1080p resolution, auto keystone correction, Android 11 with dual-band Wi-Fi 6, and a 180-degree flip design that lets you point it at a ceiling. It won’t blow anyone away in a bright room because the 390 ANSI lumens are modest at best. Still, for dark bedroom movie nights or a first projector for someone who isn’t ready to spend real money, the HY320 punches above its weight class.

2. HAPPRUN H1

The HAPPRUN H1 sits around $80 to $90 on Amazon and has quietly become one of the best-selling budget projectors there. It’s a native 1080p projector with Bluetooth 5.1, dual USB ports, and HDMI input, so hooking up a Fire Stick or game console is straightforward. The image looks solid in a dark room, though the actual measured brightness falls well short of what the spec sheet claims. That’s common at this price point. For a backyard setup or a bedroom ceiling projection, the H1 does what it needs to do without any fuss.

3. Yaber L2s

The Yaber L2s is where mini projectors start to feel like real home theater gear. At around $160, it has dual 8W JBL-tuned speakers that sound noticeably better than anything in the budget tier. The native 1080p image is sharp, and the 430 ISO lumens mean it handles dim ambient light better than cheaper options. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 are both built in, plus the auto-focus actually works well. The main limitation is that it doesn’t have a built-in battery, so this one stays tethered to an outlet. For a semi-permanent setup in a bedroom or den, though, the L2s is hard to beat at its price.

4. XGIMI Vibe One

XGIMI’s Vibe One hit the market at $269 but frequently drops to $199, which makes it a genuine bargain for what you get. It runs Google TV with licensed Netflix (no sideloading required), has JBL-tuned speakers, and includes a built-in handle that doubles as a 160-degree adjustable stand. The 250 ISO lumens are on the lower side, so bright rooms are out of the question. Battery life is also just 1.2 hours for video, which limits its usefulness for longer movie nights away from an outlet. Despite those trade-offs, the software experience and build quality feel like they belong on a much more expensive projector.

5. XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro

At roughly $370, the MoGo 3 Pro is one of the most polished mini projectors you can buy right now. It runs Google TV with licensed Netflix, projects at 450 ISO lumens in native 1080p, and the Harman Kardon speakers are a genuine step up from the tinny audio on cheaper models. The built-in adjustable stand, auto-focus, and auto-keystone correction make setup almost instant. It also works with USB-C power banks, which is a nice touch for outdoor use. The price is the only real knock here, because the image quality and user experience are excellent for a portable unit.

6. Nebula Capsule 3 Laser

The Nebula Capsule 3 Laser from Anker is the splurge pick on this list, typically running between $360 and $530 depending on sales. What sets it apart is the laser light source, which means sharper images and a longer lifespan than the LED engines in every other projector here. It weighs just 242 grams, fits in a jacket pocket, and has a 2.5-hour built-in battery. The trade-off is that brightness tops out at around 300 ANSI lumens, so you still need a dark environment. However, the image clarity and color accuracy at that brightness level are noticeably better than LED mini projectors at similar specs.

Which Mini Projectors Are Actually Worth It?

The right pick depends on what you’re willing to spend and where you plan to use it. For a cheap bedroom projector, the Magcubic HY320 or HAPPRUN H1 will get the job done for under $100. The Yaber L2s hits a sweet spot around $160 if you want better audio and image quality without going overboard. And if portability matters more than price, the XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro and Nebula Capsule 3 Laser are the two mini projectors that feel genuinely premium.
